At St. Mark’s Hospital, we stay at the forefront of all types of medicine, and surgery is no exception. Our accredited anesthesiologists, nurses, technicians and surgeons are leaders in their respective fields and are continually training and advancing their education.

Because of this, most of our surgical procedures do not require lengthy hospital stays. In fact, many require no overnight stay at all. However, in each instance, your physician will thoroughly discuss your condition and the recommended treatment plan.

In addition to state-of-the-art surgical equipment, we offer access to hybrid operating rooms (ORs) that contain advanced imaging equipment needed for minimally invasive techniques. Having the ability to perform imaging studies in the same room as surgery eliminates the need to move patients during a procedure.

Innovative surgical technology

Within our hybrid ORs, we offer access to advanced surgical imaging systems that enable faster, more precise and less invasive procedures, in a reduced radiation environment. This technology gives surgeons images to view in the OR, allowing for crisp, real-time, multi-plane 3D and 2D images. Better still, the surgeons now have a 360-degree view of screw placements, when necessary, sparing difficult and costly revisions.

We also offer a surgical navigation system that allows surgeons to precisely track their surgical instruments in relation to patient anatomy, even as that anatomy is moving and shifting. The system uses a high-resolution widescreen monitor that gives surgeons a vivid view of navigation images.

These devices reduce risk, quicken recovery and optimize physicians’ surgical skills, as well as offer more precision and better outcomes for our patients.

Bariatric surgery—also referred to as weight loss surgery—is an effective tool for patients needing to lose excessive weight. We provide a variety of bariatric surgery options as well as weight loss resources through our weight management center.

When lifestyle changes or medication management are not an effective method to treat gallbladder conditions, gallbladder surgery—or a cholecystectomy—may be needed.

Gallbladder surgery is now generally performed through a manual laparoscopic procedure. During the procedure, your surgeon makes several small incisions in your abdomen, providing them access to your gallbladder for repair or removal. This minimally invasive procedure was designed to minimize pain and blood loss while also speeding up patient recovery times.

Our gastroenterology team performs surgeries to treat conditions of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. We offer a variety of advanced procedures, including robotic colorectal surgery.

Our general surgeons will work with you to one-on-one to diagnose conditions, make recommendations for treatment and offer consultations on urgent surgical matters.

St. Mark’s Hospital provides access to a Level II Trauma Center and a 24/7 emergency room (ER), where doctors perform complex surgeries to treat traumatic injuries.

Our expert urologists offer advanced surgical options to treat a wide range of urological conditions. When possible, our doctors our trained to offer robotic surgery options that offer many benefits to patients, including less scarring and a faster recovery.

Our vascular surgeons are equipped to treat a variety of vascular conditions—from blood clots in your arteries or poor circulation. To treat these conditions, we offer procedures such as:

There are two ways to register for surgery, depending on if your surgeon has recommended an inpatient or outpatient procedure. For either type of procedure, all patients should bring a copy of their insurance card, a valid picture ID, physician referral, a list of any current medications (including dosage) and any related test results from other facilities.

All scheduling for inpatient procedures will occur through the hospital's OR.
