Quality Care

At St. Mark’s Hospital, we aim to provide quality services to every patient we treat, and we’re committed to providing the highest level of care we can. Through our focus on infection prevention, patient safety, quality management, and regulation activities, we’re able to achieve excellent quality metrics and goals for our community.

Infection Prevention

At St. Mark's Hospital, we have Infection Preventionists (IPs); their role is to ensure healthcare workers and facilities do everything they should to prevent infections from spreading. As a hospital, we aim to protect the patient, healthcare practitioners, visitors and others in the healthcare environment. Our expertise in epidemiological methods allows us to support infection prevention, quality improvement and patient safety. They are committed to eliminating harm known as Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs). They also ensure your safety through the implementation of evidence-based practices and ensure implementation through education, evaluation, and improvement initiatives.

Patient Safety

As a part of HCA Healthcare, we take pride in being a part of a healthcare system that positively impacts patients daily. We know our daily work plays a massive part in improving our patients' outcomes. To ensure a high focus on patient safety at St Mark's Hospital, we actively focus on the following:

  • Performing serious event investigations and creating action plans to prevent reoccurrence;
  • Encouraging staff, leaders and physicians to submit reports when unexpected events happen using a system called Vigilanz to investigate, track, and trend issues and improve patient safety;
  • Participating in the AHRQ Culture of Safety Survey every two years and using the findings to create action plans to improve patient safety;
  • Maintaining a high focus on preventing patient falls.

Through these initiatives and the hard work of each of our colleagues, we ensure we do everything to keep our patients and staff safe. Patient safety is an ever-evolving program to improve the care we provide.

Quality

Our quality team focuses on improving the processes in all our inpatient units. We assist leaders in analyzing their data and optimizing their care. Our department has developed nursing scorecards for each department and the individual staff members. This feedback helps us to find opportunities for improvement. We oversee many programs throughout the hospital, like stroke and sepsis care. St. Mark's is proud to be a comprehensive stroke center now, offering our community the highest level of care. The quality team monitors our compliance with safety standards and always keeps our hospital Joint Commission survey ready. We are confident that our hospital provides our patients with the highest quality of care.

Regulatory

St. Mark's Hospital takes pride in ensuring every patient who comes through our doors receives the highest quality of care during their stay. Our hospital accomplishes this by following federal and state regulations, which are evidence-based guidelines designed to protect patients and staff from harm. The Joint Commission surveys our hospital every three years, validating we provide safe, effective and evidenced based care of the highest standards. Our entire hospital team works diligently every day to achieve our goal of providing the best possible healthcare outcomes for our patients. We continually inspect every aspect and area within the hospital, from the kitchen to the operating room. The golden Joint Commission seal in our lobby recognizes our commitment to holding ourselves accountable to the highest degree of quality and safety.

Our regulatory efforts also extend to specialty programs and service lines, which shows our hospital's distinction and dedication to delivering the best care to our community. These programs include our Comprehensive Stroke Certification, Orthopedic Hip and Knee certification, Commission on Cancer and National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) accreditation, Level II Trauma Center accreditation, and Optum Bariatric Center of Excellence. Through our regulatory compliance programs, we continually strive for ways to enhance and deliver quality care to the people we serve: our patients.
