Thank you for willingness to give of your time and talents in supporting our mission at St. Mark's Hospital. We have some great volunteer opportunities, as well as a wonderful staff to work with.

We are looking for volunteers who are good examples of our vision: Enthusiastic, Dedicated Volunteers Committed to Providing Exceptional Service.

Candidates for volunteer opportunities should be at least 18 years of age. Junior Volunteer applicants (16-17 years of age) may be considered if appropriate opportunities are available; additional paperwork is needed such as letters of recommendation, parental permission, etc. You will receive the Junior Volunteer Packet at your interview.

They are an integral part of our St. Mark's family, providing valuable support in a variety of departments throughout the hospital. We have many wonderful volunteers and always have room for more!

# Area Description of Duties
1  Medical/Surgical Be a part of the awesome Med/Surg. Team: assists with telephone calls and call lights; assists patients and their family members with directions or minor requests; escorting discharged patients to dismissal area. Other duties may include assisting patients and family members on use of call lights, telephones, television, personal comfort; completing non-technical errands for the department. Great opportunity for someone who likes customer services and wants to work with a great nursing staff. Must be 18 or older.
2 Emergency Department Assists with non-clinical patient needs, monitors patients in rooms and waiting area, preps rooms for next patient, restocks supply carts, etc. Plenty to do, and includes patient interaction. Morning shift is 9:00am – 1:00pm; afternoon shift is 2:00pm – 6:00pm; evening shift is 6:00pm – 10:00pm. Must be 18 years of age or older. Prefer individuals pursuing a medical/health career. Must be 18 or older.
3 Endoscopy Department Answers phones, checks-in patients, escorts patients to room, provides patients with reading materials, answers call lights, alerts RN to patient needs, runs errands for department. Prefer CPR-certified to assist with escorting discharged patients. Must be 18 or older
4 Information Desk
Main Hospital Lobby
Great opportunity to help a variety of customers! Answers phones, uses computer to locate inpatients, assists visitors/callers with questions, and gives directions or escorts customers to various offices/services in the hospital. Good customer service and computer skills essential. Must be 16 or older.
5 Surgical Specialty Unit Be a part of our new - Med/Surg. Pavilion Team: assists with telephone calls and call lights; assists patients and their family members with directions or minor requests; escorting discharged patients to dismissal area. Other duties may include assisting patients and family members on use of call lights, telephones, television, personal comfort; completing non-technical errands for the department. Great opportunity for someone who likes customer services and wants to work with a great nursing staff. Must be 18 or older.
6 Newborn Intensive Care
Answers intercom for controlled access unit, welcomes visitors, checks IDs, answers phones, assembles information packets, and stocks supplies. Prefer year-round volunteers. Must be 18 or older.
7 Registration Greeter
Assist the Main Registration Concierge with guiding patients to and from registration booths and assisting patients to various departments for their appointments after registration. Assist with providing directions to patients/visitors to the appropriate department, as needed. Assist the concierge in providing registration tablets to patients so they can complete necessary check-in forms. Restock various supplies in the department for Registrar use. Assist the Concierge with patient flow during the registration process and ensure patients do not wait longer than 15 minutes from when they are checked in to when they are registered. Utilize AIDET to achieve excellence in patient/customer service. Welcome patients with a friendly “Hello,” eye contact, and a smile. Assist with other appropriate duties as assigned by Registration Manager/Director. Must be 16 or older.
8 Outpatient Surgery (Location at 4500 S. 300 E)
Assists staff in Recovery Room area with cleaning and making beds, counting and sorting laundry, keeping blanket warmer filled, accompanying patient family members into consultation room, transporting discharged patients and other non-clinical duties. Must be 18 or older.
9 PCU – Progressive Care Unit
Be a part of the dynamic PCU team: assists with telephone calls and call lights; assists patients and their family members with directions or minor requests; escorting discharged to dismissal area. Other duties may include assisting patients and family members on use of call lights, telephones, television, personal comfort; completing non-technical errands for the department. Great opportunity for someone who likes customer services and wants to work with a great nursing staff. Must be 18 or older.
10 PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) - Recovery Room
Works with PACU (Recovery Room) personnel to keep track of patients coming from surgery to PACU, assists with obtaining patient room assignments, and keeps surgery schedule and PACU Patient Log current and accurate. Great opportunity to work with a fun team of nurses. Must be 18 or older.
11 ARC (Acute Rehab)
Works with ARC personnel. Visits with Patients, makes packets. Must be 18 or older.
12 Taylorsville Free Standing Emergency Department
Greeting patients in reception area, stocking the department with supplies, return wheel chairs to lobby, give patients and family/visitors drinks and snacks, round on patients to see how they are doing and if they need anything, assist house keeping with light cleaning. Volunteers needed Sundays-Saturdays: 8:00am-noon and 6:00pm-10:00 pm.
13 OR Waiting Room
Must be 16 yrs. Great for Junior Volunteers. Check family in and write down name and phone number on schedule, unlock conference rooms if needed and put family in conference rooms, and answer phones. FOR CATH LAB PATIENTS- when they check in, call Cath Lab (*87250) and let them know the patient is here and the Cath Lab will come get the patient. Explain tracker board to family members, and hand out tracking sheet. Log in Lost and Found items in the Lost and Found Book - fill out date, time and item found. Help escort people to surgery, ICU, and Cath Lab. Return snack cart to the kitchen at the end of the day, Hand out coloring books and children's books as needed, and hand out drink coupons to all patient family members. Hours are Mon-Fri, 3:00pm-6:00pm.
14 Radiology Must be pursuing a degree in Radiology Field. 18 years and older. Once a week for 4 hours. Evenings only. Assist with non-clinical duties as needed. Help with transport.
15 Cancer Support Services Office
Weekdays, 18 years and older. Assist with non-clinical duties. Filing, copying, scanning, stuffing envelopes, and other paperwork.
16 ER Entrance Greeter Successfully completes Wheelchair Usage Skills Assessment Checklist. Escorting patients/visitors to destinations throughout the hospital. Provide customer service to those seeking assistance and greet patients/visitors upon arrival. Maintain confidentiality of patient information. Periodically walks throughout the hospital to ensure an understanding of locations. Provides wheelchairs to patients and visitors. This may require going to different areas of the hospital to obtain wheelchairs. Use a translator phone to assist patients/visitors unable to converse in English. Use proper hand hygiene during the shift. Must be 16 or older.
17 ICU – Intensive Care Unit Be a part of the dynamic ICU team: assist with telephone calls and call lights; assist patients and their family members with directions or minor requests; escort discharged to the dismissal area. Other duties may include assisting patients and family members with call lights, telephones, television, personal comfort, and completing non-technical errands for the department. It is a great opportunity for someone who likes customer service and wants to work with an excellent nursing staff. Must be 18 or older.

 

Availability of positions subject to change based on current volunteer staffing. Volunteers must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
