Annual list recognizes excellence in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience and financial health
Orem, Utah – Timpanogos Regional Hospital today was named to the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list. Sister MountainStar facilities included on this year’s list were Brigham City Community, Lakeview (Bountiful), Lone Peak (Draper), and St. Mark’s (Millcreek) Hospitals. The annual list was unveiled on Fortune.com.
IBM Watson Health has identified the top hospitals from a rigorous evaluation of 3,134 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals in the U.S. The annual list recognizes excellence in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience and financial health. IBM Watson Health established the list to help identify best practices that may help other healthcare organizations achieve consistent, balanced, and sustainable high performance.
“We are happy for another independent and impartial organization explaining to the general public how safe and effective it is to come to Timpanogos Regional Hospital,” said Timpanogos Regional Hospital CEO Kimball Anderson. “This accomplishment speaks to the vigilance of our staff and physicians alike. We are honored to be recognized once again for our focus on patient-centered care.”
MountainStar hospitals have accounted for 5 percent of the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals for two years running.
This recognition demonstrates MountainStar’s ongoing commitment to prioritize patient-centered care, particularly during this very disruptive and challenging time. According to IBM Watson Health, as compared to similar hospitals, the hospitals included on the Fortune/IBM Watson Health100 Top Hospitals list had better results on key clinical and operational performance indicators. These include survival rates, patient complications, healthcare associated infections, 30-day mortality and 30-day hospital-wide readmission rates, length of stay, throughput in emergency rooms, inpatient expenses, profitability, and ratings from patients.
The five MountainStar hospitals were recognized in the following categories:
Brigham City Community Hospital was named as a 100 Top Hospital in the Small Community Hospitals category for the sixth time total.
Lakeview Hospital has been recognized as a top-performing hospital for the eighth year in a row – and the tenth time overall in the Small Community Hospitals category.
Lone Peak Hospital is among the 100 Top Hospitals nationwide in the Small Community Hospitals category for the second consecutive year.
St. Mark’s Hospital was named a 100 Top Hospital in the Teaching Hospitals category, as well as an Everest Award winner again this year for the seventh time. The fastest improving organizations are recognized with an Everest Award.
Timpanogos Regional Hospital was recognized as a 100 Top Hospital in the Medium Community Hospitals category.
Two other hospitals in HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division – of which Utah’s MountainStar hospitals are a part – were recognized as well. West Valley Medical Center (Caldwell, Idaho) was named to the 100 Top Hospital list in the Medium Community Hospital category. And Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (Idaho Falls, Idaho) was named a 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital.
“Hospitals, health systems and the dedicated clinicians and staff who work at these organizations have emerged as true heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic and we are grateful to be able to recognize these extraordinary leaders at this time,” said Kyu Rhee, M.D., M.P.P., Vice President and Chief Health Officer, IBM Watson Health. “From small community hospitals to major teaching hospitals, organizations on this list demonstrate a relentless commitment to high value, patient-centered care and innovation. It is clear that the COVID-19 crisis will be a catalyst for reinvention, and we believe these top performing hospitals are positioned to emerge stronger and smarter out of this crisis.”
