Dedicated volunteers committed to exceptional service

Thank you for willingness to give of your time and talents in supporting our mission at Timpanogos Regional Hospital. We have some great volunteer opportunities, as well as a wonderful staff to work with.

We are looking for volunteers who are good examples of our vision: Enthusiastic, Dedicated Volunteers Committed to Providing Exceptional Service.

Candidates for volunteer opportunities should be at least 18 years of age. Junior Volunteer applicants (16-17 years of age) may be considered if appropriate opportunities are available; additional paperwork is needed such as letters of recommendation, parental permission, etc. You will receive the Junior Volunteer Packet at your interview.

Our dedicated volunteers provide countless hours of exceptional service to patients, visitors, and hospital staff. They are an integral part of our Timpanogos Regional Hospital family, providing valuable support in a variety of departments throughout the hospital. We have many wonderful volunteers and always have room for more!

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one 4 hour shift a week in order to be considered.

Volunteer positions

Unit Description Shifts
NICU Duties include stock carts & bedsides, clean equipment & bedsides, check visitors in and out of NICU, create admit & discharge packets, create kits, hold patients with parent’s permission. 9am – 1pm, 4 – 8pm
Women’s services Women’s Services is everything excluding the NICU. Duties include helping nurses keep stock rooms full, setting up for celebration dinners, creating diaper ice packs, getting patients and family drinks or snacks. 8am – 12pm, 2 – 6pm
Same Day Surgery Duties include keeping the patient’s family informed about the timing and location of the patient, keeping the beverage cart stocked, making pre-surgery kits, keeping lobby tidy, and checking supply closets. 7am – 11am (Monday – Friday only)
Emergency Department Duties include rounding on patients to ensure they have what they need, making IV kits, getting patients or family water & snacks, stocking supply closets, keeping patients informed of when they may be seen. 12 – 5pm & 5 – 10pm (Monday – Sunday)
Peds Duties include cleaning toys, assembling sibling packets, shredding documents, restocking craft cabinet, creating holiday decorations, spending time with bored patients Your choice of 4-hour shift, M-F
9am – 4pm
Inpatient This unit covers the third and fourth floor- Medical, Surgical, Ortho, Neuro and Pediatrics. Duties include helping patients fill out their menu for the following day, stocking rooms and supply closets, taking care of patient’s empty meal trays. 9am – 1pm, 4 – 8pm
Information Desk At the information desk, volunteers will direct patients, family and friends to their desired locations, answer phones, answer questions about general hospital inquiries and sort mail. 7 – 11am, 11 – 3pm, 3 – 7:00pm

Availability of positions subject to change based on current volunteer staffing. Volunteers must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

Volunteer guidelines

  • Appointment: Once you have completed the application, please call (801) 714-6169 to set-up an interview appointment where we can discuss available opportunities and decide what will best meet our mutual needs. Remember to bring your completed application and valid driver's license with you to the interview. Please don't mail it or drop it off before the interview.
  • Commitment: Because of the amount of orientation and training involved, we request a minimum 6-month/100-hour commitment (approximately one 4-hour shift per week for six months) from our new volunteers. Regular attendance is essential (minimum 75 percent average).
  • Background check: Timpanogos Regional Hospital requires a background check for all prospective volunteers. Necessary paperwork will be completed at your interview appointment. Your background check must clear before we can schedule you for Volunteer Orientation (may take 5-9 days).
  • Orientation to volunteer services: This provides more specific volunteer information and an introduction to your assigned area. It takes approximately 1 hour. You need to finish all written safety tests and written requirements, given to you at the interview, before attending.
  • Required code of conduct online class: This class is required by HCA of employees and volunteers. You are required to attend before you start your volunteer time in your area. (Within 30 days upon hire)
  • General health review: Each new volunteer must complete 1- tuberculosis (TB) test and meet with the Employee Health Nurse to complete a general health questionnaire and provide current vaccination information. Annual flu vaccinations are required (available free at the hospital) for all volunteers.
  • Shifts: Volunteer shifts are typically scheduled from 8:30am - 12:30pm. (morning), 12:30pm - 4:30pm. (afternoon), and 4:30pm - 8:30pm. (evening).
