This winter, I went ice skating for the first time in 15 years. Ten minutes into my skate I fell and fractured my shoulder. Since it was a nondisplaced fracture, I thankfully didn’t need surgery. After eight weeks in a sling, I was ready to start my two-month journey of physical therapy. I’ve always had a great feeling about Brigham City Community Hospital, and the fact that we live six minutes away from the clinic was a bonus! There was no doubt where I wanted to go. I called MountainStar Orthopedic and Sports Therapy clinic and they got me right in!

I was nervous because my arm was hurting badly, and I feared my treatment would be too painful for me to handle. However, my physical therapist, Sean McRory, was great! Initially, I thought that he looked familiar. Turns out that we go to the same church as his parents and I had seen him with them before. It ended up being a blessing that we knew each other—all my fears really melted away. I didn’t worry about it at all. I thought, “Hey, I know this guy!”

Sean was very hands-on and I felt like I had his full attention while I was there, which is what I needed. He was encouraging—took lots of time with me. I never felt hurried. I never felt rushed. I simply cannot say enough good things about my experience with him.

The clinic itself was great! I’ve never seen anything so nice! It’s like a high-end gym but with a medical person there to guide you through everything. I didn’t feel like it was ever overly busy either. And since I was familiar with the hospital, there were no concerns with going somewhere I’ve never been before, which can certainly add to the stress.

When I think about getting care during a pandemic, I’ll admit that I was nervous at first. However, from the very beginning, I was screened at the entrance and given a mask. Once I was in the clinic, everything was so clean. After that initial worry leading up to my first appointment, I was not concerned about COVID-19 again! The hospital staff has gone out of their way to make it a safe environment. They’ve gone above and beyond, and it’s always consistent.

If there are other people who are putting off care because they are fearful or nervous, I would say “don’t.” Don’t put off care. In my situation, if I had waited and not come in, I can’t even imagine what it would be like now. I’m sure I would have lost functionality in my arm forever. Please, if you need care, don’t wait.

I always looked forward to coming to my appointments—everyone and everything is so nice. It’s a small-town hospital and you might not think that there is such a top-notch PT clinic here, but there is! People should be coming here—it’s awesome! 5 stars!
