Logan locals, Courtney and Josh, welcomed their little boy Colt into the world in April of 2020 — during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's what Courtney had to say about her experience at Cache Valley Hospital, her provider, and the team that took care of her throughout her delivery.
When I was looking at where to deliver my baby, Cache Valley Hospital worked best with my insurance. That being said, the more I researched it the more it sounded like the best option. I was also very impressed when I toured the facility.
Likewise, after researching all the providers under my insurance, I chose Dr. Nathan Bertoldo — he sounded like the best one. I only read good reviews beforehand and I have been very happy with my choice. I love that he uses a lot of research and his recommendation follow that. He was very capable and made me feel comfortable every step of the way.
I would say that yes, I was a little fearful about delivering my baby during a pandemic. I had heard that other hospitals out of state weren't allowing fathers in, and with this being my first pregnancy, I didn't want to have to go though it alone. When I brought up my concerns with my doctor he said he would fight for me to have that support. He felt that was important, which eased my fears.
I also worried about being exposed during my visit. Before I delivered, I toured the Labor and Delivery unit and I could see how separate this area was and the measures they were taking to take care of their patients, so I really didn't worry after that.
If there are women who are thinking of an unplanned homebirth versus a hospital birth simply due to COVID–19 concerns, I would tell them that my experience was very positive and I would recommend it. I felt like I got the very best care and all the staff took extra measures during my stay to protect us.
Both me and my husband are so grateful to all the staff that took care of us. They made us feel like more than just a patient. Taking extra time to teach, listen and even support us through the delivery and after. I was very impressed with all of them. Specifically, Emma, Cody and Cyann — Thanks so much!
