1. It’s noisy.

If you hear grinding metal or feel displaced springs, your mattress’s foundation isn’t as strong as it should be.

The average mattress has a lifespan of approximately eight years, says the National Sleep Foundation. Of course, this can vary depending on the quality of the mattress.

3. You sleep better away from home.

If you get sounder sleep when not in your own bed, it could be a sign that your mattress isn’t cutting it anymore.

4. It looks lumpy.

Unevenness or sagging means your mattress is no longer providing adequate support.

5. It smells funky.

Do you notice an odd smell even with clean sheets? Over time, a mattress can gather fungi, mold and stinky grime.
