Maybe you've thought it would be fun to ride a bike regularly, but you may worry you don't have the strength. An electric bike (or e-bike) could change your mind.

E-bikes have a small electric motor powered by a rechargeable battery that's attached to the bike's chain. You still have to pedal with your legs but if you get tired of climbing a hill, the motor provides assistance.

Riding an e-bike may also boost health. In a small study published in PLOS One, researchers found that cycling outdoors, whether on a conventional bike or an e-bike, improved senior participants' thinking abilities and overall well-being.

Granted, e-bikes are not cheap. If you want to ride before you buy, look for rentals at sporting goods or bicycle stores. Or check outdoor adventure companies and tour operators
