Cache Valley Hospital’s own, Joni Stone, RN, is being recognized for nursing excellence at this year’s 25th annual Utah Honors for Nursing.
Joni Stone, RN, has served the HCA Healthcare, Mountain Division since 2014. She started as an RN at Brigham City Community Hospital, and currently leads the Med/Surg department at Cache Valley Hospital in the charge nurse role.
Joni is an emerging leader at our facility with noticeable qualities that support and exemplify our mission. She positively impacts patient care in so many ways at the bedside and beyond. Her meaningful work and compassion extends well beyond the patient and influences the rest of the organization. Joni uses her clinical skill and knowledge to provide support, act as a resource, an educator, and coach. Her person-centered advocacy for nurses enables our bedside care team to focus on the patient and their needs.
You can often overhear comments from the team about Joni being quick to notice their needs and to jump right in to help as a resource, assist with skills or simply provide a listening ear. No matter the circumstances or task, she’s always up for the challenge.
Expanding outside of beside nursing duties, she can often be found pitching in to assist EVS staff, running to the cafeteria for a specific request from a patient or educating another department lead on the more technical side of her role in Facility Scheduler or Kronos. She has also become an integral part of rounding on patients, and in the department ensuring quality and safety standards are met. Her role in keeping an eye on Joint Commission readiness is especially important during this survey year.
Further evidence of her commitment was a recent event when after her shift, she was in the lobby assisting with floor cleaning because the food care of patient meals had spilled in route to the units. After clean-up she stayed to assist with the preparation of new meals.
Joni is described as optimistic, eager to learn and dedicated to developing herself personally and professionally. She is working on her charge nurse certification, is an active guardian of the culture in her role as peer interviewer, participated in the bedside reporting collaborative and is the education point person for Med/Surg with the new education services model.
There are so many examples of Joni caring like family, doing what is right and raising the bar. Her dedication to Cache Valley, HCA Healthcare and all of you will be celebrated at the 25th Annual Utah Honors for Nursing in Salt Lake City.
