Brigham City, UT — Brigham City Community Hospital has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization's commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
Brigham City Community Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review in June of this year. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with hospital standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control and medication management.
"It's more than just a quick look under the hood," said John Nelson, director of quality and risk management, infection prevention, and patient safety at Brigham City Community Hospital. "An average Joint Commission survey will yield about 40 findings for improvement--a mix of major and minor issues. After an exhaustive three day survey we had only 5 minor recommendations that were easily corrected. It's nice when an outside agency of industry experts come in and validates that we are a highly performing organization that is providing exceptional healthcare to our community."
The Joint Commission's standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
"As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible," says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. "We commend Brigham City Community Hospital for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care."
"We are thrilled to have had such a successful survey," said Brigham City Hospital's chief executive officer, Richard Spuhler. "The survey results demonstrate that our hospital team, along with our providers, are committed to providing the highest quality of care for each and every patient that we see. This Gold Seal of Approval confirms that daily commitment."
