Same great care, one year later

March 27 2020, Jason was at his Bountiful home, down stairs, helping his kids with their homework and all of the sudden it felt like someone started truing off the power inside of his head. He got himself upstairs and was immediately taken to a local hospital. They did an MRI on Jason, and found a mass on his brain. They immediately transferred him to St. Mark’s Hospital and it was confirmed — he had a brain tumor.

At St. Mark’s Hospital, they performed a biopsy on the tumor. Jason’s surgeon, Dr. James Pingree, diagnosed the mass as a grade III — which meant a more aggressive approach to treatment. Dr. Pingree ultimately preformed brain surgery on Jason at St. Mark’s Hospital. As if that wasn’t enough, his surgery and recovery happened in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout it all, Jason and his wife, Elisa, said everyone took amazing care of him.

“I don’t have any complaints. When you go through a hard situation, but have the proper care, that makes all the difference,” Jason said. “Honestly, I have just been treated wonderfully. For me and Elisa, it was a very hard time. But care team came in and made sure I was taken care of and my wife was communicated to.”

A year later, Jason is finishing up treatment. He’s done the brain surgeries and radiation, and is the process of finishing up chemo.

“This type of brain tumor tends to come back. You have to have it monitored for rest of life, but I’m to a point where I’m pretty much done with treatment for the time being,” Jason explained. “The reason I continue to choose St. Mark’s Hospital for my care is the because of the way the staff treats me. It’s been great to come back a year later for treatment. It’s a different year. There’re different people on staff. But, it’s same great care and experiences.”
