Take me to St. Mark’s Interventional Pain Clinic for relief
Craig Goodrich, owner and founder of Goodrich Floor Coverings, knows the importance of a durable and functional flooring choice. He also recognizes the importance of choosing a healthcare provider that helps his body be more durable and functional.
When kickstarting his flooring business 26 years ago, Craig threw himself into the work. He lifted and carried tiles, carpets and all sorts of equipment. While the business swiftly grew, the heavy lifting took a toll on Craig physically.
“I did whatever it took to run my business, and pretty much anything in flooring is heavy; so over time I damaged my lower back,” Craig said. “The pain shot down my leg and traveled all the way into my foot. It got to the point that when my wife surprised me with a California trip and we rented a car, I couldn’t even ride in it. I ended up cancelling the last half of the trip because it was just miserable. There was no way to get comfortable.”
About that time, a nurse practitioner at his primary care office told Craig about St. Mark’s Interventional Pain Clinic.
Lifting heavy pain, overcoming setbacks
After a specialized consultation and evaluation, Dr. Richard Glines, board-certified pain medicine specialist, recommended epidural steroid injections to reduce inflammation of nerves for Craig’s lower back along with steroid injections near his sacroiliac joint (SI joint).
“That actually got rid of the pain down my leg for a time,” Craig said. “In fact, I was doing pretty good and after a while I stopped going to the pain clinic for almost a year because the pain was under control. Then I got in an auto accident.”
Sadly, a high-speed driver rear-ended Craig’s vehicle while he sat at a stoplight. The collision caused a major blow to Craig’s back progress.
“I became pretty dang close to being bedbound — I either laid in the bed or on the floor. I had to go on disability and sit on the sidelines of the business that I had put my whole life into,” Craig said. “So, I returned to St. Mark’s Interventional Pain Clinic and began receiving more steroid injections in my SI joints and lumbar to make me functional again.”
No need to suffer
By learning his physical limits and attending the Pain Clinic, Craig says he’s finding relief, hope and joy in life.
“I say, ‘Take me to the Pain Clinic’ because it works. It’s actually given back part of my quality of life,” Craig said. “Plus, the people there are quite amazing. From the front desk to the doctor, they’re kind and concerned. I tell people there’s no reason to push through and suffer. There are ways to take care of the pain and feel normal again.”
Pain relief for the whole family
Craig’s wife and business partner, Laurie, listened to Craig’s advice and also began treatment at St. Mark’s Interventional Pain Clinic.
“Oh, her back’s a mess too. She gets the same things injections I do, plus neck injections. That’s how she’s able to keep the business running,” Craig said. “But our daughters and son-in-law who work within the business won’t have pain like us because we now have a forklift to do all the work we used to do. We’re so thankful for the Pain Clinic. Life is short and meant to be enjoyed — and it’s certainly more enjoyable without pain!”
