Brigham City, UT — Box Elder County’s own Jami Cottle has been named the next chief executive officer of Brigham City Community Hospital, leaders from Utah-based MountainStar Healthcare announced today.

Cottle has spent the majority of her career serving patients and leading colleagues at the 40-bed hospital, and has been serving as interim CEO since March, when longtime executive Richard Spuhler retired from the role. Cottle has been Brigham City Community Hospital’s chief nursing officer (CNO) since 2021, and will retain that title in her new dual role.

“As I’ve gotten to know Jami, it’s become clear to me that she is the right person to continue leading the hospital,” said Evan Ray, president of MountainStar Healthcare, which serves more than one million patient interactions at care sites from Logan to Payson. “Her experience and passion have made and will continue to make a big difference to a hospital and a community she knows extremely well.”

Cottle has served patients and colleagues for many years at Brigham City Community Hospital, where she was a nurse and clinical supervisor for more than 10 years before accepting a promotion as the director of women’s services at sister hospital Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful. In 2021, she returned to Brigham City for the CNO position, and has achieved exceptional care quality and operational results.

In 2022, Brigham City's Labor & Delivery unit ranked #1 across all of HCA Healthcare in the Units of Distinction program. The 40-bed facility was also named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Fortune and PINC AI in 2024, placing it among the 20 best small community hospitals.

“I am honored to continue serving Brigham City Community Hospital and our incredible community,” Cottle said. “Together, we will keep advancing the quality care our patients deserve.”

Cottle received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Weber State University, where she later educated nurses as an assistant professor. She also received a Master of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University. Jami is a proud mom of two boys, and also has a young grandson.

Brigham City Community Hospital has been caring for Utahns since July 31, 1976, when it was opened by HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services.

“Because of our connection to HCA Healthcare,” Cottle added, “our patients get the best of both worlds: they get care from a truly local hospital filled with people who care deeply about our community, and with the support and expertise from a national leader.”
