Jerry Pulsipher, a 54-year-old UDOT inspector, had been dealing with a painful lump on the arch of his left foot for years. Despite the discomfort, Jerry toughed it out until he decided it was time to get it removed. Just days before his birthday, Jerry underwent surgery under the care of Dr. Willmore a podiatrist at Cache Valley Hospital.

Experience with the Surgery and Care Team

Jerry’s journey to surgery began with a thorough pre-surgery process that put him at ease. "The hospital called me Thursday morning, and we did all the pre-registration and paperwork over the phone," Jerry recalled. This efficiency meant that on the day of his surgery, he was quickly checked in and ready to go. "I went to the restroom, and when I came out, my girlfriend Shayla and nurse Klea Chatterley were already waiting for me. There wasn't even a minute's wait time in the waiting room."

Jerry described the atmosphere as relaxed and friendly. "All the nurses and everybody were awesome. It was like you were sitting in the backyard just talking; there was no pressure, just laughs and jokes," he said. Klea prepared him for surgery with a mix of professionalism and humor, making him feel comfortable and at ease. She started his IV and got him all hooked up and ready to go.

In the OR, Jerry met Dr. Cannon, his anesthesiologist, and Jessica, the RN. Dr. Cannon and his team made sure Jerry was comfortable and informed about what to expect. "Dr. Cannon was down-to-earth and approachable, like someone you could hang out and chill out with on the back porch," Jerry remarked. This type of care made the entire process smoother and less intimidating.

Jerry’s surgery involved monitored anesthesia care (MAC), which allowed him to breathe on his own without the need for an endotracheal tube. This type of anesthesia helps patients wake up faster and easier, and Jerry was no exception. "I took a nap and then woke up, and geez, I was home by 12:30," he said, amazed at the quick turnaround.

Post-surgery, Jerry was grateful for the attentive care he received. "I don't remember much about waking up, but walking out, everyone from the little lady who shaved my ankle to the nurses was just awesome." Jerry’s recovery was smooth, and he was back to work within a week. A follow-up visit confirmed that his foot was healing well with no complications. "They rewrapped it, looked at it, and said it looked great—no oozing, no seepage, just a little bruising around the site," Jerry explained.
