What is an ICU?
ICUs are specialized units within a hospital that provide a closely monitored environment for patients with acute care needs. Advanced technology, ICU specialists and around-the-clock attention ensure patients receive the care they need.
Once admitted to one of our ICUs, our team works together to plan, direct and continuously evaluate the care and progress of every patient.
Conditions treated in an ICU
When patients are experiencing conditions that need advanced care and treatment, our ICU team is available 24/7 to provide prompt care.
Patients are commonly admitted to the ICU for:
- Heart problems, such as heart attack, extremely low or extremely high blood pressure or abnormal heartbeat
- Lung and breathing problems, such as acute asthma or severe pneumonia
- Postoperative care
- Recovery from intensive surgery
- Renal and endocrine disease
- Serious infections, including sepsis
Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
Our hospitals also offer access to intensive care for our youngest patients. Our Level II and Level III NICUs are staffed with experts who provide advanced care for babies who are premature or ill. Here, we deliver compassionate care to both infants and their mothers. In fact, a strong bond often develops between our team, new mothers and their babies that is evident when the families come in to visit years later.
Neonatal team
Neonatologists are doctors who specialize in caring for infants born early or with medical complications. Our board-certified neonatology physicians are available 24 hours a day.
