Childbirth preparation classes

Childbirth preparation—six week evening series

Nothing is more exciting than giving birth, and you want to be as prepared as possible. The information in these classes include labor/delivery information, breathing, relaxation, partner’s role and medications used in vaginal birth and cesarean birth. A tour of the hospital and a breastfeeding class are included. Please see web site for dates and times.

Childbirth preparation—weekend intensive

If you are a first time parent or have not had a recent birth, come learn about the labor and delivery process, breathing and relaxation techniques, the birth partner’s role, postpartum care and much more.

A tour of labor/delivery and postpartum areas is included. We keep the classes small, so register early! The price includes a breastfeeding class, but because of time constrictions, it is taught on a different day.

Please note: this is an intensive class and all items taught in the six night class series may not be taught in the weekend intensive.

This is a pre-recorded seven-week childbirth preparation series. Watch a complete childbirth class series in the comfort, safety of your own home and at a time that works for you.

This is a pre-recorded seven-week class series that includes:

  • breastfeeding class – last class of the series

Childbirth refresher—evening classes

This is a three-week class for people who have already brought a baby into the world. It includes a review of labor, delivery, breathing, relaxation and medications used in labor. Students will be joining a class already in progress. A tour of labor and delivery are included.

Childbirth refresher—weekend intensive

If you have already brought a baby into the world, this class is especially for you. It is a one-day class taught on a Saturday. We will review the labor and delivery process, practice breathing and relaxation techniques, discuss the support person’s role and explain the medications used in labor. Students will be joining a class already in progress. A tour of labor/delivery and postpartum areas is included, if you choose to stay until 4:30 p.m.

Natural childbirth—seven week evening series

This course is designed for moms interested in using alternative methods of pain control for labor and delivery. We will discuss the anatomy and physiology of childbirth, the emotional and physical aspects of giving birth and numerous comfort measures for labor, birth and recovery. We will also practice breathing and relaxation techniques, discuss the role of the support person and identify the best tools to help a laboring woman. This class includes a tour of labor/delivery and postpartum areas and a breastfeeding class.

Mother's milk—breastfeeding pre-recorded class

This is a pre-recorded 2 ½ hour breastfeeding class. Watch this class in the comfort, safety of your own home and at a time at works for you.

Breastfeeding is the best way to provide nutrition to your newborn, but how do you breastfeed? This class will provide you with the information you need to get off to a good start. Topics include nipple preparation, how to get your infant to latch on properly, and dealing with some common problems, such as sore nipples and engorgement. Pumping and going back to work will be addressed.

This is a 2 ½ hour class devoted to breastfeeding. If you have already signed up for the Childbirth Preparation Weekend Intensive series, this class is already paid for and no additional cost is needed. Formula feeding is not addressed in this class.

Baby steps—a newborn parenting class

Are you anxious about caring for your newborn? This two-week class is designed for anyone who is or soon will be a new parent. Topics include basic newborn care, bath demonstration, hospital routines and infant safety.

Baby steps—a newborn parenting class, pre-recorded

This is a pre-recorded two-week class series. Watch the Baby Steps class in the comfort, safety of your own home and at a time at works for you.

Are you anxious about caring for your newborn? This class is designed for anyone who is or soon will be a new parent. This class is focused on the newborn age’s day 1 to 6 months. Topics include:

  • Basic newborn care
  • Bath demonstration
  • Hospital routines
  • Infant safety and security
  • CPR/choking non-certifying demonstrations
  • Immunizations
  • Tips on when to call the doctor

Super siblings

Class will be taught in the classroom with strict guidelines. All attendees must wear a mask at all times in the hospital and class. Anyone not wearing a mask will be asked to leave. Please note if you or your child is sick, please to not attend the class. Adding a new baby to your family creates a time of excitement and change, especially for the youngest family members. This class is designed to familiarize children with infant care, equipment and ways they can help. The course includes simple games to play with the baby, the advantages and rewards of being the older sibling and a child-friendly tour of labor/delivery and postpartum areas. Parents attend the class with their children. The class is recommended for children between two-and-a-half and 10 years old.

Additional classes

Babysitting class

This class teaches the basics of becoming a babysitter through hands-on instruction for children nine years old and older. Students will learn how to play with children, safety in the home, basic first-aid, when to call 911, changing diapers, getting a baby to sleep, how to deal with crying and how to feed an infant or toddler. Register early, class number is limited to 20 students. Groups, such as church organizations, scouting troops and families are welcome.

Cost: $10 per student

Cesarean birth

A cesarean birth is a special delivery. This class is for parents anticipating a surgical birth. We will discuss the events, expectations and emotions surrounding a cesarean birth.

Beyond the basics intensive baby steps class

During the COVID-19 event, this class has been cancelled.
Cost of class is "per couple". This is a one day Saturday intensive class. All of the topics taught in the evening two week Baby Steps class will not be taught in this intensive class. Instead, we will focus on only four topics; preparing for baby, (self-care, communication), postpartum plan, infant crying, swaddling, sleep strategies. If you have taken the evening Baby Steps class and want additional information or only have a Saturday to attend, this is the class for you.

Hours: 10:00am - 3:00pm with a one hour lunch on your own.

Cost: $20.00

Childbirth preparation during bed rest

You may be on bedrest, but you still need to know about labor and delivery. Our information package is a viable alternative for patients confined to bed and unable to attend childbirth education classes. Videos and instructional information, as well as contact with a certified childbirth educator, will be provided. A physician’s order is required for program enrollment.
