St. Mark's Hospital is proud to serve the Salt Lake City community as a Level II Trauma Center. This means that every day, we're ready to provide critical care to individuals who have suffered serious injuries or illnesses. In 2022 alone, we treated over 1,000 patients with traumatic injuries. Most recently, St. Mark's Hospital received recertification for its Level II Trauma Center status from the American College of Surgeons.

“At St. Mark's Hospital, the emphasis our program puts on quality care means that our patients are getting the safest and best care specific to their injury,” said Carli Cervantes, Trauma Program Director at St. Mark's Hospital. “Our program continuously ranks among the top hospitals in our health system for patient care and patient outcomes. That's something that we're really proud of.”

Here are the top three reasons why our Level II Trauma Center is such an important resource for our community:

  1. Enhanced patient outcomes: The specialized care provided at our Level II Trauma Center can lead to improved patient outcomes. The medical professionals at our hospital are highly trained and experienced in providing care for serious injuries and illnesses, and they have access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology that can help to improve the chances of a successful recovery.
  2. Quicker access to life-saving care: St. Mark's Hospital is equipped to handle a wide range of injuries and illnesses, and we have a team of specially trained medical professionals on hand to provide care 24/7. This means that day or night, individuals who suffer serious injuries or illnesses can get the care they need as quickly as possible, which can be the difference between life and death in many cases.
  3. The right care, just in case: Salt Lake City is such a desirable place to live partly because of the great access to world-class outdoor recreational activities, such as skiing, mountain biking, and hiking—all of which carry a risk of serious injuries. Our team of medical professionals is ready to provide care, just in case. Additionally, our close proximity to these recreation areas can make a significant difference in the outcomes of seriously injured patients. Time is often a crucial factor in the treatment of serious injuries, and having a trauma center nearby reduces the time it takes for a patient to receive care, which ultimate helps reduce complications.

Bottom line, Salt Lake City and the community benefit greatly from having a Level II Trauma Center close to home. This resource provides quicker access to life-saving care and enhances patient outcomes for our most critical patients.
