Nesha Prescott

While delivering during a pandemic was not a part of Nesha's birth plan, she still thinks her experience was amazing.

When Nesha's water broke at 4:10am, she and her husband Obin headed to Cache Valley Hospital. Nearly 12 hours later, she gave birth to Paxton, a beautiful, 8 lbs., 7 oz., baby boy.

While delivering during a pandemic was not a part of Nesha's birth plan, she said her birthing experience was still amazing. Here's what she had to say about delivering little Paxton at Cache Valley Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The reason that I chose to deliver at Cache Valley Hospital is because the care is more one on one — which made me more comfortable. To me, that meant less people and less chance for an exposure to COVID–19. Plus, all the nurses are amazing and being able to birth in the same room that you recover in is really nice!

I was initially a little fearful about delivering my baby in a hospital during a pandemic. However, my provider, Dr. Kristin Craig, assured me it would all be good. She said, “Everything will be fine.”

For me, the hardest thing was at every appointment, things kept changing as far as guidelines and visitor policies. However, with every appointment, Dr. Craig updated me on the current policies. She would always ask me, "What's your number one goal?" My answer was always to be safe and have my husband there. In the end, my experience turned out to be awesome and amazing!

My two nurses, Cody and Kelsey, were completely amazing. They went over and above to make sure we got everything taken care of that we needed. Ashleigh was super great with Paxton, too! All of the staff was super friendly, even the security guard! Also, the fancy meal that they give you is so special — I haven't had anything like that during my prior births.

What's my advice for other pregnant women right now? Listen to your doctor. For me, the hardest thing I had to do was check in at the ER. But after that, it was smooth and everything was amazing. When you are in the unit — besides the fact that everyone is wearing a mask — you wouldn't know any different. So, for me it was not that bad. You will survive. I was anxious, but after I came through the door everything was great.
